The Sparrow Hotel

It wasn’t meant to be, just a bush or a tree.

It was planted quite freely, and then cut to a ball, a fetching shape.

But invaded it was and boy did it wake the garden so early at dawn,

No need for an alarm, or the making of tea.

The sparrows invaded between you and me.

There’s an en suite bathroom for washing their feathers, a gourmet garden for feeding the young, and insects and seed heads too numerous to mention, all basking in a south facing sun.

Its autumn now and there’s a chill in the air. The colours have deepened, the branches laid bare. The young they have fledged, their parents moved on, no more do we hear their uplifting song!

As a ‘sparrow hotel’ it wasn’t intended, but invaded it was!

And oh did it wake the garden so early at dawn.

No need for an alarm or the making of tea, the sparrows invaded between you and me.
